Announcing Amp: a better wire harness design tool

At Senra, we know wire harness design is broken because we manufacture harnesses every day in our factory. Design tools are clunky, disconnected from the factory, and slow down engineering work. That’s why we’re building Amp: a web-based CAD tool that bridges design and manufacturing, guiding you from concept to buildable harness, fast.

If you’ve ever hacked together harnesses in Excel or wrestled with overpriced, overcomplicated tools, Amp is for you.

We’re opening our beta sign-up for early access and will be selecting a few design partners to work closely with over the next several months while we continue to build.

With Amp you can get your connectors on the page quickly, bundle cables and wires effortlessly, manipulate your wiring list as if you were using Excel, and much more.

What’s a wire harness, anyway?

Wire harnesses are everywhere and yet no one has ever heard of them. From aerospace to agriculture, wire harnesses are the nervous system of nearly every modern electrified machine. Check out this blog post, which dives into wire harnesses, their importance in the increasingly electrified modern world, and the current broken state of the manufacturing industry that builds them.

Reimagining harness design, from the factory floor up.

As an engineer, if you’ve ever designed and ordered a wire harness from a manufacturer, you’re intimately familiar with how fragmented and painful the process is today.

A handful of design tools currently exist, ranging from advanced electrical design and mechanical routing to a simpler highly customizable choose-your-own-adventure approach. There is no standard, no correct way to design a wire harness. Some engineers still prefer to design in Visio or Excel since existing tools are too expensive, too complex, and too tedious to use. Other tools require entire teams to effectively manage them.

We believe that the key to moving quickly is getting designs right the first time. When your tools are built for manufacturability from the start, you reduce go-backs, speed up iteration cycles, and free up resources to focus on where the real innovation happens.

Enter Amp.

Unlike traditional harness design software, Amp is opinionated about best practices and manufacturability. Built from the ground up, it’s a partner as you design, guiding you with real-time feedback and guardrails, so that what you build in the tool is immediately ready for the production floor: no ambiguity, no translation.

Amp brings together a Senra managed part library for fast, accurate component selection, and supports ITAR compliance with multi-tenant AWS GovCloud hosting and fine-grained in-app permissions, making it suitable for various team sizes. Visual layout management is simple and intuitive, allowing engineers to focus on design, not pushing pixels. Schematics are autogenerated as you work, and built-in DFM checks will catch issues before they ever leave the tool, let alone hit the factory floor.

While you are wiring up your harness, your schematic is automagically generated.

Revision management and collaboration tools, such as commenting, will be integrated directly into the tool, ensuring teams can iterate quickly on designs and effectively track changes. Amp isn’t just a product – it’s a tool we use in our own factory, which means we’re deeply invested in making sure it’s reliable and gets the job done. The result: less back-and-forth, faster builds, and a workflow that scales effortlessly from prototype to production.

Amp is our first step in setting a new standard for the industry. If you want to be among the first to try it out and help guide its direction, you can sign up for our beta waitlist now.
